That day when I started doing Yoga ...

That year when I started to live a more conscious live ...

It was the year when I started to eat organic food, the year when I started to take more care of my body and learned to listen to what it had to say. In that year, me and my body became friends, not the best friends, just friends.

From that year on, I've always been fascinated with yoga. Why? No idea. But for some reason, yoga seemed fantastic, like another world, like a soothing and blissful world.

I've always loved watching yoga pictures. They do something to me. They make me feel good and make me wish more than anything that I was the person in the picture doing those admirable stretching poses.

All this feeling good and wishing and fascination about yoga has never got me to that point to actually do yoga. In all those years ... never. It's crazy.

Instead, I started running. The only reason why I started running - and not practicing yoga - is that I thought that running was more intensive and so it would give me visible results. But now I finally came to realize that I was completely wrong!

That day when I started doing yoga ...

This morning I did my first ever 30 minutes of yoga. Starting at the beginning, with the basics, because I really want to do it right and learn how to control my breathing. So I found this series Basic Yoga Workout for Dummies on YouTube and watched and practiced Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.

Oh boy, I never thought that even this basic yoga poses would be so intensive. It all seemed so simple and easy, but finding your balance and holding the pose really asks some perseverance. Apart from that, all this stretching did my body so good. It's so calming and fun at the same time. These 30 minutes of yoga gave me such a warm happy feeling inside and I felt so light and energetic afterwards.

From this day on, I'm going to try to practice yoga every day when I'm not running. Usually I run 2-3 times a week. The other days I would like to strengthen my body and keep my muscles flexible with yoga. Maybe one day I will be able to do this ...

Creamy green smoothie: Kiwi, avocado & banana



I have yet another smoothie for you today! This week I wanted to try one with kiwi and avocado. And since I only had very little inspiration, I added banana, again. Banana basically goes in every smoothie, right?



~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Ingredients:
(6 glasses)

5 kiwis
1 avocado
2 bananas
400 ml almond milk

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Peel the banana, avocado and kiwis. Cut them all into pieces. Put all ingredients together in a blender. Blend blend blend. Done!

Wow, it seems like I can't hold a camera! How skewed is this picture, hehe.


Okay I have to admit that this smoothie actually doesn't look very green. But I thought to name this smoothie 'green' anyway since all ingredients are green, except for the banana and the almond milk of course, ... Hm okay, this actually doesn't make sense at all since that's basically half of the ingredients. Never mind.



The banana was very present in this smoothie, but the kiwis gave it a more acidic flavour. I thought it was too bad that you didn't taste the avocado (I ♥ avocado!). The avocado only made the smoothie a little more creamy.

Spring salad with pomegranate & hummus



Today I have a super simple and very yummy salad for you to celebrate the beginning of spring *watches the pouring rain outside (and starts crying)*.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Ingredients:

A bowl of lambs lettuce (corn salad, field salad, whatever you may call it)
Some semi-sundried tomatoes
Hummus (as much as you like)
A handful of pomegranate seeds
1 tsp of sesame seeds
1 tbsp of almonds
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~



Preparation:
Clean the lettuce and remove some seeds from the pomegranate. Beware of your clothes and make sure you don't turn the kitchen into a red swimming pool!

Making the salad:
Mix the lettuce with the semi-sundried tomatoes.
Spoon some hummus on top of the salad.
Garnish with sesame seeds, almonds and pomegranate seeds.

That's all!
I'm really wondering why I've made a recipe about this. It's just too simple, isn't it!



I should really recommend you to use organic hummus because I think they are the tastiest. Or you could also make your own of course. That's still something I would really like to try, very soon!

And then after mixing it all together, it looks like this ... 



Mmm, I love salads like this. Especially when there ar nuts in it! I'm nuts about nuts ...

Berry-licious smoothie with melon



This week's smoothie is very berry-rich. I love berries in smoothies, they always give me the feeling of a hot summer day.

Last week, my grandmother bought a cavaillon melon and got another one for free. Of course, she can't eat 2 of those biggies by herself! So she kindly gave the other one to us. Since my parents and my sister almost never eat fruit, except for bananas, I saved this big fella for my smoothie :)



~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Ingredients:
(5 glasses)

1 cavaillon melon (ripe and sweet)
2 small hands of frozen raspberries
2 small hands of frozen blueberries
200 ml almond milk

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Peel the melon and remove the seeds. Cut him into pieces. Put all ingredients together in a blender. Blend blend blend. Done!



I was brave and only added some chia seeds on top instead of all the different nuts and seeds I could possibly find.



This smoothie is perfect for bright and sunny days, or for when you're feeling berry happy, or ... for any day really. Just try it, you'll love it!

Exotic smoothie: Pineapple, banana & coconut



Lately we've been treated with some lovely sunny day's. I'm so happy the weather is slowly turning around! I love the chirping birds in the morning or when I go for a run in the park, I love the beautiful blossom trees, I love the smell of the air at this time of the year ... aah, how I love springtime!

So I thought, why not celebrate this glorious time with a very exotic smoothie. Right.

Ingredients:
(6 glasses)

1 pineapple
2 bananas
400 ml rice-coconut drink (or just coconut milk, but we didn't have that)

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Peel the bananas and clean the pineapple. Cut everything into pieces. Put all ingredients together in a blender. Blend blend blend. Done!



Finally a smoothie my sister really wanted to try. She likes her smoothies very sweet and only wants those that have lots of banana or berries in them.



It's not one of the most daring combinations, but oh my goodness, it just tastes like summer!

Super crunchy granola with banana & cranberries



One month ago, I made my first ever granola - with dried figs. I was raving about the result and it was hard to keep my hands off. Yes, there were times when I couldn't control myself, but I tried and came out stronger. However, despite all the hard times I've been through, here's the sequel ...

This recipe is inspired by Lieke's recipe which you can find over HERE.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Ingredients:

1 banana
1 tbsp tahini
1 tbsp honey
100 g rolled oats
70 g almonds, roughly chopped
30 g pumpkin seeds
30 g sunflower seeds
2 tsp ginger powder
100 g dried cranberries
80 g dried banana chips
4 tbsp flax seed
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~



Step 1:
Preheat the oven to 125°.

Step 2:
Mash the banana. Add the honey and tahini and mix to form a paste.

Step 3:
Take a large bowl and add the rolled oats, ginger powder, almonds, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. Mix it all together and add to the banana-honey-tahini paste. Stir until all dry ingredients are coated.

Step 4:
Pour this mixture onto a baking tray and pop this in the oven (125°) for about 45 minutes until golden brown. Stir the mixture every 15 minutes to make sure it won't get burned!

Step 5:
When your granola has become golden brown, remove from the oven and leave it to cool. Don't transfer your granola to jars yet as the condensation on the cooling granola might make it go soggy.

Step 6:
When it's cool, add the flax seeds, your dried cranberries and banana chips.
Finished!



Pour your granola into an airtight container. This way you can keep it at room temperature for up to two months!

While my granola was in the oven, there was this delicious banana scent that filled up the whole kitchen. And the ginger powder brought me back to a warm and loving Christmas mood ...

Happy smoothie: Beetroot, blood oranges & avocado



A new week, a new smoothie!

Last week I told you I had found my favourite smoothie so far. Well, so far indeed, because I have to admit I like this one even more! Oh, and I also fell in love with its gorgeous dark pink/purple colour!



~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Ingredients:
(5-6 glasses)

2 small beetroots
5 blood oranges
1 avocado
200 ml rice-coconut drink (almond milk or any other vegetable milk will work)

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Peel the blood oranges, avocado and beetroots. Cut everything into pieces. Put all ingredients together in a blender. Blend blend blend. Done!
While making this smoothie, my hands and my face (oops) looked completely purple. Thank you beetroot.



You can not deny that this smoothie looks gorgeous. The colour really makes me happy :) And because of the avocado, the consistency was very creamy and smooth. Yuuuum!



This smoothie doesn't only look fabulous, it also tastes incredibly delicious! I really recommend you to try it if you fancy a smoothie one of these days! Oh, and if you do, please let me know, that would mean the world to me!
